Pulp are a band who have created a unique sound over the past twenty years, mostly in the underground scene, but now they are one of the most high-profile British bands. Their fusion of David Bowie, Brian Ferry, and a whole load of 80s pop styles make Pulp's sound refreshing, amusing, and upbeat.

His ‘n’ Hers is Pulp's first great album. It has the immediately catchy tunes, "Lipgloss", "Babies", and "Do You Remember the First Time", songs that appeal to most people no matter how obscure or mainstream their taste.

Those tunes contain some of the best examples of Pulp's original and darkly comic lyrics. Filled with anecdotes of unglamorous sex and romance (e.g. pink glove fetishes, spying in a closet watching your girlfriend's sister have sex, etc., etc.) and descriptions of undeniably naff British working-class culture.

An oddball himself, vocalist Jarvis Cocker's highly amusing persona combines sharp wit with some self-mockery, a combination that has won him the affections of the wider public in Britain.

But what will make you jump out of your chair to buy this album and not one of Pulp's more recent efforts? Simply the down-to-earth nature of this album makes it a surprising and endearing listen. Long before the critical and popular acclaim of "A Different Class", the huge summer festival performances and the run-in with Michael "Jesus II" Jackson, this album was written at a time when Pulp were close to their roots. This adds a warmth and genuineness to an album full of catchy tunes and amusing lyrics.
