Are you sick of all the standard Christmas albums? You know the ones -- where they sing the same songs that you’ve heard since you were a kid? Well, to break that tradition, give Christmas Eve and Other Stories by Trans-Siberian Orchestra a try.

Instead of playing or singing the traditional Christmas songs, this CD takes you on a trip around the world with an angel on Christmas Eve. The angel was sent down by God to help out struggling people. The story begins in an old city bar and comes full circle, back to the bar.

Don’t let the name of the band fool you. They have an orchestral back-up, but the entire CD is centered on a rock theme. The song “A Mad Russian’s Christmas” begins with a guitar riff that could easily have been heard on a Megadeth album. It is woven with some classic Tchaikovsky. The mix is awesome!

There are also some nice vocal parts to this CD. It’s not people screaming at the top of their lungs – it’s more of a choir-type sound. However, it does have a few songs with some awesome raspy vocals. The song “This Christmas Day” displays this beautifully. The voice fits right into the story.

This CD is fun to listen to, but it is also inspiring. In order to catch the whole story, you have to read the CD jacket while you listen to the album. The story leaves you with a good feeling in your heart and great songs in your head.
