I’m taking a break from my final exam studying to tell you about an indie label band called The Better World (TBW). TBW is a band straight out of New Jersey. Formed by the lead singer Matt Coban and Justin Miskowski, these guys have developed a sound that is unlike any other band currently on the radio. To do my best, they sound like a mix between 3 Doors Down, newer Verve Pipe, and Brother Cane.

TBW’s CD opens up with “Down and Under.” The edgy guitar riffs and raspy vocals will have you rocking out from the start. This song is a perfect attention getter. The songs “Fell Apart” and “TBW” follow this standard and provide individual climaxes throughout the album.

“Before and After” is another outstanding song from the self-titled disc. It begins with a catchy guitar riff, which leads you into the rest of the song. Before you know it, you’re singing along at the top of your lungs. The chorus shifts into a nice guitar break, which clearly shows the musicianship of this band.

My favorite song is “Eyes of the Sun.” I’m not sure if it is the quiet to loud transitions that take place throughout the song, or if it is the pounding drum beats and heavy guitar accompaniment. Either way, this song is the one most likely to be stuck in your head.

TBW is a band that has a chance for great opportunities. Besides a few little editing issues, their self-titled album will have you rocking at the beginning and recomposing yourself at the end.
